What you need to do for maximum SEO power with your own PBN is all based on the following steps:

  • Finding an expired domain under your niche
  • Evaluating its probability to provide link juice for SEO
  • Registering the expired domain properly
  • Hosting the newly registered domain
  • Putting contents in the domain
  • Linking the domain to your main (money-making) site
  • Updating new contents in your PBN domains

Before getting started, you need to know that SEO constantly keeps changing and updating. Google always keeps updating its search engine algorithm to make it difficult for us for obtaining maximum SEO power. So, you need to stay focused in your work and keep updating your techniques along with the updates in search engine algorithm. What you will be learning today mightn’t be useful next day.

You might have also read other articles related with setting up your own PBN, but the articles you’ve read are either paid guides or aren’t focusing on every features of a Private Blog Network. Today, you will get to know about each of the aspects of PBN for free. I wish you’d apply the methods I have mentioned to obtain the maximum SEO power.

What is a Private Blog Network?

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of different sites that any individual or brand controls. PBNs can help the owner because he/she can insert backlinks on the sites which point to their main site, so as to help in building a better ranking for the main site.

What is a Private Blog Network?

Your main site is the site you use to make money. You always wish to rank your main site higher in search engines, generally Google. Every extra site you are using to provide backlinks to your money-making site is your Private Blog Network. These sites could be based on any platforms, either WordPress or any Web 2.0 sites. The only thing required for these sites to be safe to work as a PBN is that these sites need to remain private. You might be creating these sites in the way similar to blogs. However, they don’t need to be blogs where you write good contents.

To set up an ideal PBN, you need to have different sites and keep them private without sharing anywhere else on the Internet. When you send URLs on your PBN to others or sell these links, your PBN will no longer be considered a PBN, since it is no more a private network. Many link sellers on different PBNs are also leaving a mark behind which lets Google discover their networks since they keep outbound link patterns from different link buying customers. You need to be aware of such things.

What are the risks involved in building a PBN?

You might have already heard about the thing I am going to tell next, but I will still make you remember that special point. The search engine giant, Google, is always against techniques used for link building which is used to gain rankings in search results. Their search engine algorithm as well as advertisers seeking for promotion always want to find natural high ranking links. What I am telling you right now is totally blackhat. Performing SEO with PBNs isn’t what search engines want you to do.

Blackhat SEO

You need to take it in mind well since Google easily recognizes such things. When you are doing it effectively, Google will have a hard time dealing with your PBNs. However, due to the advancement in Artificial Intelligence sector, Google’s algorithm is getting stronger day by day which keeps detecting PBNs easily. Their algorithm finds out the possible suspects and submits for reviewing to their employees based in web-spam team in Hyderabad, India.

If you set up your PBN right, none can stop you from outranking the Google search results.

But, if you don’t do it the right way, you might be unknowingly destroying all your site’s prestige. You need to be sure about not letting any proofs that could help Google trace your PBNs while you are building them as well as find out that the backlinks pointing to your main sites through PBNs are not natural.

If they find it out, your PBN no longer stays as a Private Blog Network.

You will never find out how Google detected your unnatural backlinks. Therefore, you need to have a proper information regarding the circumstances behind setting up a powerful Private Blog Network (PBN). If you are trying to perform any kind of SEO regarding your PBNs, you need to have proper theoretical knowledge on how exactly it is done.

Do PBNs work effectively now for SEO?

PBNs are highly effective in the current scenario too. If you build them well, they can help you rank your money-making sites easily and effectively. If you setup your PBN in the right way, you can easily throw away the risk factors that come into your strategy. This is the main reason why PBNs are very popular towards many people for obtaining maximum SEO power. However, most of the people who are looking to build their PBNs end up doing it in the wrong way.

PBNs are very useful in these days too since Google’s algorithm is still focused towards links as a major ranking factor.

You just need to build backlinks targeting to your money-making sites from the authority domains in your PBNs which look similar to an actual site providing genuine content. But, you need to be sure about one thing — there needs to be no proof that tells Google that the sites in your PBNs are unnatural and just built to provide backlinks to your main site, otherwise Google will find out that all the sites in your PBNs are owned by a single individual or a brand.

If you leave a little footprint in your PBNs regarding their interlinking with your main site, Google can easily detect and get all sites in your PBN removed from their search results. If Google finds it out, it is totally useless in the link juice they can pass down the sites you link to from them.

Getting Domains for your PBN

To build a PBN, you need to get a domain having the feature to pass link juice to your main site. This domain doesn’t have to be a spam domain. I’ll tell you how exactly you can do so when you keep reading this guide further.

You can purchase the domain from an Auction or when it is expired. You may also buy a well-running authoritative website from different website selling marketplaces such as Flippa, BizBroker24, etc. to name a few. If you have any domains which are old and useless having good authority, you may just start using them in your PBNs.

But, what you need to remember is that Google doesn’t need to detect any footprints regarding your ownership to those domains for providing backlinks to your main site.

If you are looking for a domain to use in your PBNs, you need to look for a domain that is authoritative and has good metrics so that it won’t be worthless later on.

These are the things that you need to look for while looking for a PBN domain.

  • Most Required: Well-established and proper backlink profile
  • Domain Age
  • Majestic Trust Flow and Citation Flow (you need to look for a certain Trust Flow/Citation Flow ratio, which I will be discussing further.)
  • Proper content while viewing the history from Web Archive/WayBackMachine (Archive.org)
  • Good Moz Domain Authority (DA)
  • PageRank

You can easily get these metrics by finding an expired domain. But, looking for an expired domain with good metrics could be difficult and you may have to look for several other things at times.

When you start your domain on your PBN, you just have to pass the incoming link juice to the site pages forward to your money-making site pages. You can easily do this with different ways such as simple links, image links, or maybe even using 301 internal and external redirects.

You will find more about it while you keep reading this guide.

When you have your own PBN with full control, you can have maximum power for all forms of SEO.

Maximum SEO Power with your own PBN

You can use the power of your PBNs for ranking and banking at will. You can use their power to rank your own sites, customers sites or probably even build a PBN on sites like BlackHatWorld and sell PBN backlinks. However, this isn’t recommended since Google can easily detect your PBN and all sites linked with you when more orders from people keep coming.

Planning your PBN ahead of time

When you setup your own PBN, you will need to be sure whether every site in the PBN will be specific towards a certain niche or a general site that is able to pass links to different money-making sites. It’s highly recommended that you keep these PBN sites separate since each site in your PBN has its own amazing SEO power.

You can also build different parallel PBNs which are not related or interlinked with each other. If you do this, you won’t suffer from a greater loss when Google detects one of your PBNs.

If you have a PBN containing domains under a specific niche, these domains can have a better relevancy in the link juice which it forwards to your main site. However, such sites could be difficult to find. These sites will have a higher ‘topical trust flow’ and could help your main site obtain many link juice.

If you have a PBN with many domains, it mayn’t be highly relevant, but it can pass a lot of authority and trust to your main site if it has good metrics. It is always good to mix and match both forms of links, since Google identifies such as natural links. This is what usually happens in the Internet naturally without the use of any techniques.

The number of domains you require in your PBNs depends upon the niche you have chosen and the competition in your niche. You have to research about well-ranking sites in the SERPs to check their backlinks. These sites may also be using their PBNs to rank higher in search results. Even though they might be keeping their PBNs secret, you can easily find their PBN links just with some Google search using certain queries. When you find out their PBN links and go through them, you will be able to setup your own PBN in the same way which could be even more powerful than theirs.

You always need to make sure that you don’t leave any traces by taking actions in a hurry which could easily lead Google to discover your PBN links.

If you find out anything that could help you rank higher, don’t take actions very fast and pass a lot of backlinks to your main site from your PBN domains seeking to have your domain rank at the top of Google just in few hours. This is never going to happen, but Google will easily find out that you are using PBNs to rank higher and they could even detect every links in your PBN.

SEO takes time. It isn’t a thing that happens quickly. Google itself takes some time to provide due link juice to each backlink you give to your main site.

The link velocity that you obtain from your PBNs also depends upon the other forms of link building acts you are performing as well as the historical link velocity your site has. It could be fine to get just a couple of links every weeks for certain niches, but this isn’t a good number for other niche.

How much does it cost to setup your own PBN?

There are several factors on which building every site in your PBN as well as managing your PBN depends upon. Here I am going to take an in-depth look over every major factors. However, here are the related costs for each factors in brief.

How much?

Purchasing Domain

You can get domains for your PBNs with different techniques. So, there are different costs accordingly for every technique. If you are purchasing domains from an auction, it could take from $50 to $300 or even more. Purchasing domain from website marketplace like Flippa could be even more expensive. Also, getting a domain name depends upon what your niche is and what your current SEO status, the competition in your niche and your overall SEO strategy is.

If you are looking for not so expensive option, you shall prefer buying expired domains. Expired domains means the domains that the original owner didn’t renew when its expiry date reached and is now available for sale. This could cost you just around $10 which is the cost of registering a new domain.

If you are seeking for domains having good authority and the potential to provide better ranking power to your main site, then you have to perform some tedious task looking for the domains to purchase while analyzing their SEO potential.

Web Hosting

It is always recommended to purchase a premium cPanel-based Shared or Cloud Hosting for your domains. If you are seeking to purchase a cPanel Shared Hosting, you need to be ready to spend around $3 to $7 every month for each site from a good web hosting company. If you want to host multiple domains in the same hosting account under the same IP address, it could be a lot more cheaper. However, you also need to remember that you shouldn’t host more than one PBN sites on the same IP to pass backlinks to your main site. This could easily result Google to find and de-index your PBN sites.

You also need to remember that you shouldn’t purchase cheap web hosting accounts that cost just around $1 since all their servers have improper websites hosted on them. This could lead your PBN sites to get a bad reputation based on neighborhood. This is also a major cause for de-indexation of your sites by Google.

Setting up your Site (Designing, Installing and Backend)

The cost for setting up your site depends since you can either do it yourself or have a good web developer do it for you. If you are looking to get premium themes and plugins for your PBN sites, you may need to spend some money. As a whole, setting up a single site could take from $50 to $80 or even more depending on what kind of website you are building.

Site Content

Most of the bad PBN builders don’t focus on site contents in PBN sites thinking they are wasting their time putting up good contents. However, to get your PBN sites properly indexed and to pass down link juice to your main sites, site contents are very important.

You can hire some good content writers to write about 500 words per article in your PBN sites for around $1 per 100 words. You need to remember that using spinned and rewritten contents on your PBN sites could lead them from getting removed from Google search results quickly.

PBN Management

When you are setting up many PBNs, you need to be sure that you would be able to manage all of them efficiently later on without any traces to prevent Google from spying into your PBN sites.

I use Microsoft Excel and a cloud storage to keep my list of PBNs and PBN sites. I never use Chrome when I am visiting the PBN sites directly since it could provide some information to Google regarding site ownership.

How many sites do you need in your PBN?

A lot of people have asked me this exact question. But, the answer isn’t always same. It depends on what kind of site you are trying to rank, and how much loss are you ready to bear.

If your main site is in a tiny niche with lower competition, you could setup a small PBN containing 8 to 10 sites with basic SEO power. Having the PBN sites with TF 15+ and clean domains would be better. It is enough for you to push your site higher in the SERPs.

If you are able to find a domain with TF 35+, you don’t need to have a lot of other sites since this single domain is as powerful as a handful of sites. But, you have to pay higher amount for such domain as well as put a lot of contents into it to build it up well.

You will also get one link with one anchor variation from your PBN sites. It is always good to expand and try getting backlinks from multiple decent PBN sites having good metrics which can provide you a large variety in your profile of anchor links.

Isolating your PBNs safely

You need to make sure that you don’t provide link to the same site from the same IP while you are building links to your customer’s sites or your affiliate sites.

If you have 8 domains hosted on a single IP shared hosting account, you shouldn’t link to the same money-making site from two or more different PBN sites on the same IP.

If you are thinking about spending less money for hosting your PBN sites, it is recommended to host different sites focusing on a specific niche in one shared hosting account.

Getting Good Domains with Good Ranking Power

Searching for a good domain for your PBN is very important for building a powerful PBN. If you have weak domains that can’t pass ranking power to your main site, then building a PBN out of those sites is totally worthless. Instead, you can get good domains easily with many different methods.

You shall buy a domain which is available at an auction. You might also buy a domain from a domain marketplace like Flippa. You may also register an expired domain for cheaper price. You just need to be sure that the domain you are purchasing has good SEO power and is free of spam contents and has no any spammy sites pointing towards it. You should also analyze the domain metrics for every domain making sure that it meets with your minimum requirements for SEO depending on the price you will be paying to purchase the domain.

Important Metrics to Check

When you are analyzing the metrics of a certain domain you are going to purchase for your powerful PBN, you need to make sure that the domain is totally free of spammy links pointing to it as well as free of spam contents. I mean to say that the domain shouldn’t leave any traces that tells it had been used for abusive contents before.

The historical metrics of the domains shouldn’t have anything similar to spam or junk contents in them. The backlinks towards these domains should also be a real backlink and not used by the previous owner as a part of PBN or as a main site for getting backlinks from PBN sites.

Some of the information you need to evaluate in every potential domain you are planning to buy are mentioned below:

  • What are the metrics for the best ranking links such as PageRank, TF and DA?
  • How genuine and real are these pages with better metrics linking to the domain?
  • What sort of backlinks does the domain consist of?
  • Are the existing backlinks mostly spam backlinks or are they genuine high quality links?
  • Are those links mostly comments?
  • Are they nofollow or dofollow?
  • How many of them are still alive? How many of them are deleted?
  • How quickly were those links created?

Tools to use for Domain Checks and Audits

Some of the major tools to perform your domain audits are described in detail below. You don’t need to cancel your plans about purchasing a domain just because one of the metrics is low. If a metric is very high, having one metric of lower value wouldn’t affect much. But, if the single metric is spammy, then it would easily indicate that it is a spam domain. In that case, you can just set aside that domain and go on to analyze another domain, otherwise you would be wasting your time on worthless things.

Majestic - Trust Flow (TF) and Citation Flow (CF)

Majestic – Trust Flow (TF) and Citation Flow (CF)

Majestic is a web crawling system which works similar as the historical Google algorithm. You can find two significant metrics about a particular domain with Majestic: its Trust Flow (TF) and its Citation Flow (CF). You need to focus more on TF since it is very important and when it is higher, it would mean that the domain has clean and trusted links. The Citation Flow is just the total number of backlinks without taking the power of each backlink as a subject matter. In case a domain appears to have a lower TF, but a higher CF, it would easily mean that the domain qualifies to be a spam site. The reason behind this is the high CF, since it has tons of links passing from sites with low TF.

It is always recommended for you to seek for a domain that maintains the TF/CF ratio of more than 1.10. It means the Trust Flow needs to be higher than the Citation Flow. But, if the domain has TF of around 25+, then the CF can be a little higher than this ratio, but this doesn’t mean CF can be nearly equal to TF.

Moz - Domain Authority and Page Authority

Moz – Domain Authority and Page Authority

When I was learning much about the site, I found out that the Moz metrics aren’t so strong since their metrics can be easily simulated by using spam links. I always use it just to make sure that the Domain Authority (DA) and Page Authority (PA) of the domain I am about to purchase are more than 10. However, I don’t take their metrics as a factor to indicate the quality of a certain domain. If the DA and PA are not more than 10, I look into some other tools to look for any other hints that might exist such as dropped links which Moz pulled up, but others didn’t.

Ahrefs - Referring Domains and Domain Ratings

Ahrefs – Referring Domains and Domain Ratings

Ahrefs includes the biggest crawler base among all. This is the reason why most people including me use their system for the measurement of the total number of referring domains while comparing with any other tools mentioned above. The domain you are analyzing for to include in your PBN needs to have around 15 to 20 or even more number of unique domains linked to it. Sometimes having just a few number of links linked to your potential PBN domain could be fine in case they are highly specific to a certain niche or some of their strong links are from an authoritative domain like Wikipedia.

Analyzing the Quality of Backlink of a Domain

I prefer using Majestic for analyzing the relevance towards a certain niche of every backlink to the domain I am looking to use for my PBN. I use Ahrefs as well to visit every page linked to the domain I am analyzing quickly. I can easily find out what kind of page it is with the help of Ahrefs. I analyze the highly authoritative links first and later I quickly check the links with lower authority. While you keep analyzing the domain metrics, you can evaluate the power of the domain you are looking for towards its backlink profile.

Knowing if a Domain is Spam or not

The most important metric that you need to look for is to check the historical information of the domain to find spammy contents in it and analyze its backlink profile regarding spammy links. This is the first thing that you need to do during your domain audits. That’s what I always do. If you purchase a domain which had spammy contents or bad backlink profile previously, then it is totally worthless since it won’t help in ranking your main site, but instead it will cause bad effect to your site.

What you need to look for is anything that looks like pharma, Chinese text, violent contents, or anything that looks like spam. If you also find out that a certain domain might have been used as a part of a PBN previously, then you need to skip that domain and look for another domain. These are the tools that I use to analyze these things:

Web Archive/Way Back Machine (Archive.org)

Web Archive/Way Back Machine (Archive.org)

With the use of Archive.org Web Archive, you will be able to reach over to any of the historical condition of the domain when it was owned by someone else. While you are analyzing these historical snapshots, you have to check whether that site has similar content or not. If the site has a different layout over different time, that’s fine, but if the content in the site is found to be changing over time, you have to believe that that domain has already been a part of a PBN before. If you find any Chinese text in the site, you’d have to leave analyzing that site since it easily shows that the domain might have been used as a PBN before. If you find out that the site had other languages in the part, then you don’t need to worry about anything as long as the the contents in it don’t keep changing over time. Finding a site having 301s in the past would also be bad to choose.

Screenshots.com

In case Archive.org doesn’t feature any historical situation of the domain you are looking for, then I usually use Screenshots.com to analyze the historical contents of the domain.

Ahrefs

I recommend you to use the history checks and anchor text cloud in Ahrefs to take a look at the hyperlink texts in the backlinks to the domain you are looking for. If you find a lot of money keywords or the repetition of a single keyword multiple times, then it could easily mean that the site was a de-indexed site with an over-optimized SEO condition.

Looking for Anchor Text Spam

With the help of Ahrefs’ Anchor Text Cloud, you can take a quick look at the anchor texts that are pointing to your potential PBN domain.

What you need to look for are the anchor texts which don’t resemble anything like spam or improper SEO. If there are many branded anchors which indicate the site names or there are natural anchors including general words such as “Click here”, “Visit us”, etc., then such anchor texts can be considered a good anchor.

If there are a lot of anchor texts resembling money-making keywords, then it clearly resembles that there’s something wrong with the domain’s SEO and it could indicate that the site is over-optimized and might have been penalized by Google, and hence the domain was cancelled and not renewed by the original owner. If there are anchor texts including names of pharma, and items like FIFA Jerseys, etc., then it could also be an indication of a spammy site. You need to seek for an anchor cloud containing anchor texts that look totally natural.

You need to look at these 3 checks at the beginning. You’d always want to skip a bad domain, and keep spending your time analyzing the other metrics of the domain. This is the reason why you need to look at these 3 metrics at first. If the domain doesn’t go through this spam check, then it’s not worth looking at other metrics of that domain.

You will also be putting an eye to see if there are any traces of pharma, Chinese text, violent content or anything that looks like spam or the domain was a part of a certain PBN when it was being used by the original owner.

Here’s a suggestion for you in case you find a domain which has no historical footprints in Archive.org or Screenshots.com. You can look at the domain’s anchor profile in Ahrefs as a benchmark.

Domain Age Factor

When the original owner of a certain domain forgets to renew the domain when the domain’s expiry date is passed, it doesn’t mean that the domain will automatically lose its SEO power. Even though the domain is expired or dropped, it still has the backlinks pointing towards it. When you purchase that domain, you can easily point the incoming backlinks for passing on link juice to your main site. You will be able to obtain all the link juice power that the domain had in the past, since Google again puts an eye on the power given to your potential PBN domain.

Instead of an expired domain, if you find a domain which is available at an auction and hasn’t been dropped by the original owner and is staying in the same condition as in the past, then it’s likely that the domain will be obtaining its previous SEO power and link juice. However, these auction domains are available at highly expensive prices and you mayn’t usually need them.

A Google employee, Gary Illyes mentioned in a recent Google Hangouts that the people at Google are working together to remove the power of all the SEO link juice an expired or cancelled domain passes on when the domain is purchased by someone after it is expired or cancelled by the original owner. This is only for the domains which are dropped or expired and is removed from the domain registry, and not for domains available at an auction. As a result, it means the domains available at an auction are always powerful and can retain all its SEO power after you purchase it. But, the domains which are dropped could be on the process of having their SEO juice de-valued.

Different Forms of Inbound Links to a PBN Domain

There are many different types of links you might find out while evaluating the link profiles of a certain domain for your PBN.

  • Blog Comments: These kind of links can be considered good if they stick and are received from sites in the relevant niche or topic. Although these links mayn’t be as powerful as other forms of inbound links, they are still valuable.
  • Forum Profile Links: Having inbound links from forum profile easily resembles that some kind of tool is used to build backlinks for a certain domain in a spammy way.
  • Directory Links: Directory links are usually good and they are even more better if they are from local directories or certain niche. These kind of links can help you a lot while building your main site.
  • Footer and Sidebar Links: These kind of links are usually low quality links. In case a site has many links in the footer and sidebar, it is better to remove them if the other metrics aren’t much better.
  • Image Links: Image links are one of the best forms of inbound links. However, these links need to have a good alternate text and the image needs to be above the fold to perform well.
  • Contextual Links: Contextual links are the best. I said “the best”. It is even better if these links come from sites relevant to your content.

Domain Metrics or Backlinks

I have went through a lot of domains to use on my PBN having low metrics as resembled by different tools mentioned above. However, these domains have few very strong backlinks. In that case, I usually register these domains since Google puts an eye at the powerful backlinks, and not the metrics. The domain metrics are analyzed by other developers and not Google.

Managing your Potentials

When you have found some good domains, you can just open a text editor or a spreadsheet software and keep inserting these domains according to your evaluation.

You can divide the notes into three different parts, and here’s how your notes will probably look like:

Managing your Potential Domain Findings

You can ignore few sentences below. These are just how your notes will look like.

On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look.

Confirmed

  • firstdomain.com – (Why confirmed?) It has very strong natural backlinks and has a good TF with the TF/CF ratio of 1.10.
  • seconddomain.com – (Why confirmed?) It also has some strong backlinks and has a CF/TF ratio of 0.5.

Unsure

  • thirddomain.com – (Why unsure?) It has few .edu backlinks, however it has some low quality directory links as well.
  • fourthdomain.com – (Why unsure?) It has a good TF/CF ratio. Along with that, it also has low quality directory links.
  • fifthdomain.com – Same as the fourthdomain.com.

Spam

  • sixthdomain.com – It has a lot of forum profile links, which is obviously generated with some spam tools.
  • seventhdomain.com – It has been found to be used as a part of PBN before.

What I am trying to tell you here is to perform different actions quickly and separate the confirmed PBN domains from the other two.

If a domain needs more evaluation, you can put it inside the “Unsure” domain list in case some mixed signals are coming from the domain. You can just get over to the analysis of another domain instead of wasting your time on this Unsure domain.

Performing this work is very important since doing this will make you able to go through your domain list quickly. You might easily spend a lot of time on a single domain and at last, you won’t even use that domain since you will find out how many dropped domains you need for your PBN. However, if you skip analyzing a domain, probably from the “Unsure” list, you can check it at anytime further and analyze in more detailed way.

Lifecycle of a Domain

A domain goes through its own lifecycle. I mean to say that every purchased/registered domain has to go through different states based on when they will expire and whether they will get renewed by the owner near to their expiry dates or get dropped/cancelled and later get registered by someone after or may even be bought by some companies to sell in an auction.

Here’s an image that shows you the lifecycle of a certain domain:

Lifecycle of a Domain
Lifecycle of a Domain

At the beginning, you should know that the domain you purchase isn’t actually owned by you. The same policy is applied for everyone who has purchased a domain. Instead, the domain is actually taken in rent or leased from the domain registry for a specific period of time such as three months, six months, one year, two years, five years, or even ten years. You can’t own a domain name yourself.

Expired Domains

There are different kinds of domain you can get to build your own PBN and the cheapest and the safest way to do so is to purchase a expired domain. However, this method is the toughest way since it requires very careful evaluation, use of different tools and much time. Once you are able to find out how you can get expired domains regarding a specific niche, then it is a benefit for you on getting these kind of domains at very low price.

Also, getting an expired domain is by far the most effective way among all other methods. The reason behind this is that if you use someone’s system to get expired domains with amazing powerful in the niche you are writing on, you will be able to receive a lot of link juice power relevant to your niche.

It is also correct that an expired domain already loses its domain age after its expiry date passes on, as well as some of its SEO power for passing down link juice to your main site. However, it is still the most effective method as I mentioned above if you do it the right way.

Auction and Drop-catching Domains

When the original owner of a domain wants to sell the domain, or if the domain is near to its expiration date, it can be listed in the auction for sale.

An auction domain doesn’t lose its domain age and its SEO power, but its ownership might change if someone bids the right price for it.

Some of the domains listed for auctioning might have a lot of SEO and link juice power. However, such domains could be very expensive since the price is set by the original owner of the domain. There are hundreds of different people who are evaluating the list of different domains which enter into the auction automatically after their expiry period so that they can bid their price at the right time and purchase it.

When you are looking to analyze different metrics of a certain expired domain which has passed a lot of time since its expiry date, you can’t find whether the domain is still in the Google search results or not since Google already deletes all its power. However, when you are analyzing an auctioned domain, you can find out whether it is index in the Google search results or not before you are ready to purchase it from an auction.

Drop-catching a domain refers to the method of placing a bid over a domain to purchase it when its expiration date is reached. You will easily win the domain at the base price in case you are the only one with the base bidding price. This depends upon which drop-catching service you are using.

Some of the major auction and back-order services are listed below:

  • SnapNames.com – $69
  • NameJet.com – $39
  • Pheenix.com – $29

When you are purchasing a domain placed in an auction, you have to stay aware from the stalkers who are keeping an eye at the auction and the maximum bidding price paid by the winner. This way, such stalkers can easily threaten the winner to expose their PBN if the winner doesn’t fulfill their demands in case the winner purchased the domain to build their own powerful PBN. However, this sort of problem isn’t usually seen in case of expired domains.

Auction domains are also available at a very expensive price. But, they can easily pass tons of link juice power and other power required for SEO. These domains also have a lot of real traffic and popularity among the people which easily adds a plus point into the domain’s power and hence it can rank in search engines under any niche for good keywords. Previously, I used PRpowershot Pro, but now it seems like this site has been sold and is down.

Lifecycle of a Domain

The easiest way you can find auctioned domains is through the GoDaddy Auctions. When you are ready to bid your price for an auctioned domain, you also need to be ready for a large battle of different people bidding over the domain. This usually happens when a domain with a lot of link juice power is about to enter its expiration period. You need to know that you aren’t the only person who’s bidding for the domain.

Finding Expired Domains

There are many different services out there which can help you in finding out the expired domains. However, you also have to perform some manual auditing to find the spammy domains using the methods and tools I mentioned earlier in this guide.

I am going to cover up my preferred method of finding high quality and powerful expired domains with the use of free services in the next guide where you will be able to get all the steps required for finding domains with a lot of link juice power and power required for SEO with the use of free tools available out there.

Some of the best web crawler-based services for finding expired domains are listed below:

You can also join different Facebook groups regarding PBN as well as keep an eye on different domain marketplaces which are selling premium spam-checked expired domains. However, you have to be aware of the people who don’t have any clue over your action and might threaten you to leak your PBN unless you fulfill their demands.

Some of the best domain databases which provide collection of auction, dropping, expiring, etc. domains from different domain registrars are listed below:

As I mentioned above, at any time in the near future, Google might start removing the value of link juice from domains which have been dropped, expired and un-registered for some period of time. This is going to take place so that Google can stop the idea of obtaining maximum SEO power from expired domains available at low price.

Hosting your Private Blog Network

Having a good web hosting account to host your PBN sites properly makes sure that Google doesn’t devalue their SEO power and de-index them from the search engine. I am telling you the exact same thing in this guide to make sure that you host your PBN domains in the proper way.

The last thing we can have is our PBN domains being detected by the Google’s algorithm for PBN detection and later being forwarded for a manual review to the Google’s web-spam team. We are already prepared for this. However, why do we need to notify the Google’s web-spam team?

Since this situation can be avoided, why shouldn’t we take the appropriate measures?

Many PBN experts and different forums have recommended a lot of different web hosting services and strategies for everyone getting started with building their own PBN.

There has been just a single core strategy that has prevailed as the only strong method to host your PBN domains without being afraid of giving away traces of your PBN to Google. This method is also the cheapest web hosting method out there. You just have to set up many shared web hosting accounts in many popular web hosting companies.

Why is getting shared web hosting account very important?

You will have a shared web hosting space on a server when you purchase and set-up a shared web hosting account in a popular web hosting service provider. You will also receive a shared IP address which is very important for your PBN.

The IP address that you receive will be the same IP address which has been assigned with many different websites hosted on the same server of the web hosting service provider.

All sites on this server have same IP address.

Most of the websites on the server are totally legit and genuine websites and aren’t used for PBN. These sites are run by people like you, for some purpose, not for PBN.

Having the same IP address as many other websites lets you stay hidden inside the server hosting hundreds or even thousands of other websites.

Does a dedicated IP address based hosting expose my PBN?

It is totally fine if you are hosting just a few sites on a dedicated IP address. However, if you host many websites on it, it could let Google suspect you and hence it could expose your PBN to Google.

If you are a looking for a dedicated IP address for your websites, you can get it with a cloud web hosting provider or a VPS web hosting plan such as Vultr, Digital Ocean, etc.

When you apply for a dedicated IP address based account or a VPS account in a web hosting service provider, they always provide you a dedicated IP address where no other websites have been hosted before. You can host your websites on that server and none else can host their websites on it. However, if you host many sites on the server as I mentioned above, Google might suspect you over having a PBN for obtaining maximum SEO power.

If you have 10 different domains that you want to use as a part of PBN and you are looking to host all of them on a dedicated web hosting IP address where no sites other than your sites are hosted, then it will easily leave back traces which Google’s algorithms could detect and devalue the link juice power.

But, if you host a lot of domains for your PBN on a shared web hosting plan, then it would be very difficult for Google to find out whether a certain domain is a part of a PBN or not since there are many other websites hosted on the same shared web hosting IP address. It would be a tough task for them to prepare a list of your sites which are a part of PBN since most of the websites hosted on the server are actually real websites, run by real people.

Due to this reason, Google also doesn’t let its algorithm use the server IP address as a starting point for PBN detection algorithm. But, if you have a dedicated IP address, Google would easily use the IP as the main criteria for preparing a list of all the domains and perform PBN detection actions on the domains hosted on the same IP.

If you are hosting 15 domains in a shared web hosting server which also hosts hundreds of other domains on it, then Google can’t even make a list of all your 15 domains out of the cloud of tons of domains. This easily makes the PBN detection task very difficult for their algorithm since they wouldn’t know where to start and where to end while checking all the domains the server.

When you are about to start providing backlinks to your main sites through the PBN domains hosted on a dedicated server, the PBN detection algorithm will eventually expose you since they will find out that there are just a few websites on the server. When the algorithm crawls over these websites, it could easily find out several factors like the backlinks to a certain site in all of these websites and Google could suspect these sites for being a part of a PBN. Then, their algorithm will either forward every domains on the server to the Google web-spam team for a manual analysis or automatically conclude the domains for being a part of a PBN.

Hosting more domains on your shared web hosting account

You can any number of domains that you’d like on your shared web hosting account, provided that there’s no limit over the total number of sites you can host in the hosting plan. But, you need to remember that you shouldn’t provide multiple backlinks to a single money-making site while you are hosting all the PBN domains on the same IP address.

When you are providing backlinks to a single money-making site from multiple domains of your PBN which are hosted on a shared web hosting account, then you need to remember that you are leaving out major traces for Google to detect your PBN.

There is very less probability of finding multiple websites on a shared web hosting server which are providing inbound links to the same domain. However, if the site is a widely popular site all over the world such as Google, Twitter, YouTube, etc., then it is totally normal and most of the websites provide inbound links to these sites.

However, the odds of a small site receiving multiple backlinks from multiple domains hosted on the same web hosting server IP address are very low.

This is the main reason why you need to avoid providing multiple inbound links to a website from different domains in the same shared web hosting account.

If you are looking to increase the SEO and link juice power of your main website by providing inbound links to them from multiple sites in the same IP address, then you have to make sure that your main website is hosted on a unique IP address itself.

If your main site and the PBN domains are on the same shared web hosting server, then Google will easily find footprints regarding your PBN. That’s the same case. So, you need to avoid this as well.

Linking Out from your PBN domain to Main Site

Here’s what you need to know about “What is Safe” and “What is Unsafe”.

"What is Safe" and "What is Unsafe"
“What is Safe” and “What is Unsafe”

Looking at this simple diagrammatic representation, you will find out that you can provide link out to one main site from only one PBN domain on the same shared web hosting IP address. You must do it, and there is no alternative for this. If you avoid this restriction, you will easily be caught by Google.

I highly recommend you to provide backlink just once to one money-making site from only one domain in the same shared web hosting account.

If you bypass this restriction and provide multiple links out to the same site from multiple domains in the same shared web hosting IP, then Google will easily find footprints and forward your PBN domains to their web-spam team and perform an analysis to find out every secret domains on your PBN with this small footprint.

Now, you can easily understand why you should avoid purchasing backlinks from others’ PBN domains. Instead, you need to build your own PBN which is totally secret.

How to Receive More Links from your PBN domains?

You have to build your own PBN by hosting different PBN domains on different shared web hosting accounts on very popular and high quality web hosting service providers.

If you sign up for a shared web hosting account in a popular web hosting service provider, you will have many other sites on the server IP address. The less popular web hosting service you prefer, the less sites will be on the server IP, which also means there will be more chances of leaving back traces for Google to detect your PBN domains. When you create a new web hosting account in a shared web hosting server and start hosting different PBN domains on it, then you can provide inbound links to your main site by following the above criteria (i.e. preferring a popular web hosting service provider).

Since your PBN domains are on a new server and another web hosting service provider, you can freely provide a backlink to each of your main sites through the cloud of different PBN domains hosted on this server.

This means you will be building one backlink for one main site with one shared web hosting account as well as hosting many PBN domains in the same web hosting account. If you need another backlink for any of your other money-making sites, you should sign up for another shared web hosting account with a popular web hosting service provider. You also have a benefit when you have many different clients and are working on different projects simultaneously since you can build your PBN with less web hosting resources.

If you have a lot of projects, then you can also have a better Return-on-Investment (ROI) ratio. This is because you can utilize the maximum recurring money you invest for every web hosting account each month. This is amazing.

It is better to start building your PBN slowly with just about three different PBN domains on your first shared web hosting account. You need to provide inbound link to each of your main sites just once from each of the PBN domains hosted with this account. The next thing you have to do is to sign up for another shared web hosting account with another popular web hosting service provider and do the same by hosting around 3-4 PBN domains and providing backlinks to around 3-4 money-making sites from each PBN domain.

You also need to find out the total number of domains hosted on that server as well. If you find out that there is very less number of sites on that shared web hosting server, and if the same thing is found across multiple web hosting service providers, then it will easily leave back traces for Google. The reason why it leaves traces for Google to detect your PBN is that the same money-making sites are getting inbound links from the same PBN domains hosted on the same shared web hosting server.

This is a situation where a single IP address (containing multiple PBN domains) is providing backlinks to the same main sites multiple times. You might not need to worry much about this case much since this is a small proof for Google’s algorithm. You can easily get over this condition by analyzing the popularity of the shared web hosting server IP address that your PBN domains are assigned during the creation of your shared web hosting account. You can easily find out how you can do so while you continue going through this guide further.

You shouldn’t give backlinks to more than a couple of money-making websites from a single PBN domain, even though the money-making are hosted on the same server.

You need to make sure that you don’t provide backlinks to the same money-making sites on every PBN domains in case you are looking to provide a single PBN domain to increase the SEO power of multiple money-making websites. You should be using different pair of money-making sites for providing backlinks through your PBN domains and in some period of time, you might have to use just a single link as well.

You also have another benefit by building your PBN domains following the above technique since you are free to host any expired domains in every web hosting account which are based on a different niche each.

This way you will have around 5 different domains based on different niche on every web hosting account. Also, all the domains will provide a natural inbound link to increase the SEO and link juice power of your money-making sites of their corresponding niche.

Even though Google isn’t able to get the information of your web hosting account from your web hosting service provider, I highly recommend you to avoid using a Google account while creating an account in the web hosting service provider since Google might take a massive action whenever they become desperate seeing your main site grow bigger and become more powerful.

Accessing your cPanel

You will receive the login details of your web hosting account administration area while signing up for an account in the web hosting service provider through which you will able to create support tickets as well as stay in touch with the web hosting customer support team.

Accessing your cPanel

Not only that, you will also get the web hosting account details linking to the first domain that you host in their server through that web hosting account. These details will have complete information necessary to get inside your web hosting cPanel.

You can login to your web hosting cPanel account using this information. From the interactive graphical interface of the cPanel, you will be able to control all your domains as well as start building your first PBN website. All the other domains that you will be hosting in the same web hosting account can be hosted through the Add-ons or Add-on Domains area in the cPanel. You can do this whenever you want to host more domains into your account.

The Add-on domain area will also include a certain information regarding nameservers or DNS which you have to place in your domain through the domain management (or DNS management) section in your domain registrar. Domain registrar refers to the website where you registered your domain name.

Every shared web hosting uses the Start-of-Authority (SOA) record, i.e. email address, which is the reason why you shouldn’t worry about a common record. It will be common for every sites hosted on this particular shared web hosting server.

You will be able to control all your domains and your web hosting account features through the cPanel.

You will have the option to create email addresses based on your domain name as well as be able to install WordPress or any other CMS (content management system) through your cPanel easily. You don’t need to worry about anything if you don’t find one-click WordPress installer tools in your cPanel such as Softaculous or Fantastico, since you can easily install it with your database information and the WordPress zip file from the WordPress website or even contact the customer support team to install it for you.

If you are having problems while building your website with WordPress, you will find the exact method in a while. But, I highly recommend you to place all your web hosting information and your domain names in a text file or a spreadsheets so that you can easily find them whenever you need in an organized way.

Finding Good Web Hosting Service Providers

I highly recommend you to create an account to host your domains with the most popular web hosting service providers. You might have known the reason behind this recommendation if you’ve already gone through all the information I mentioned above. You shouldn’t be creating an account in any web hosting service providers if they don’t provide an English interface. However, if a certain popular web hosting service provider provides services in your native language, you might want to try their service as well.

You should also sign up for only the shared web hosting account since you will be able to host multiple domains in the same server. You need to make sure that you also get the access to the cPanel since it is the most well-organized feature in your web hosting account that allows you to host or remove domains as well as create email accounts based on your domain and maybe even install WordPress or other CMS easily just with a few clicks under the name of one-click installer with the help of Softaculous or Fantastico which are included in the cPanel.

You should remember that you need to create an account for a shared web hosting plan which lets you host multiple domains in the same server.

You might have to pay any cost up to $12 a month for a good shared web hosting account on a popular web hosting service provider. However, if you pay at the beginning for a one full year, then you might get some discount. You should decide yourself on whether you should pay the full year price at the beginning or not. You need to make sure to pay the price depending upon the amount you can afford as well as your web hosting plan based on the total number of projects and niche you will be working on along with the total number of domains for your PBN.

If you are looking for different discount codes, sales or coupons which are going on right at the moment in different web hosting service providers, then you might want to download amazing Google Chrome extension, “Honey”. You might also seek for other alternative services such as RetailMeNot, Coupons.com and other coupon providers.

Starting with few small projects and later going on to create many different websites based on different niche on every web hosting account would be an amazing idea. You will be able to get at least a single inbound link to your money-making site from each web hosting account. You could also host even more domains for your PBN in more web hosting accounts.

Is it good to prefer $1 Web Hosting Service Providers for your PBN?

You can find a lot of web hosting service providers out there providing services for just $1. In fact, most of these cheap web hosting service providers except the truly phenomenal web hosting service providers like iPage grew into fame just for providing services for very low cost. These web hosting service providers are just the certain group of popular hosting providers which offer shared web hosting service for a periodic fee of just $1 per month.

There are thousands of people who are using as well as recommending these $1 web hosting service providers just because they are ultra cheap and you can easily maximize your Return-on-Investment (ROI).

I am warning you right now — don’t ever fall for these web hosting service providers just because they are cheap.

Do you want to know the major reason why you shouldn’t be using such web hosting service providers? The true fact is, most of the domains hosted on their servers are low quality websites and many of them are part of PBNs. Google’s spam detection algorithm highly favors the servers of these web hosting service providers to check for spam and forward to their manual web-spam team.

You also need to know that all the details about IP ownership is public and anyone can easily view the IP addresses of every servers of each web hosting service providers.

Google always puts main focus at cheap service providers at the beginning since thousands of people prefer such services to host their PBNs on their servers to maximize SEO and link juice power of their money-making site.

Most of the domains on the shared server IP addresses provided by such service providers for your web hosting account will eventually be de-indexed as soon as Google’s algorithm recognizes them, which will leave back a massive proof for Google to trace your PBN domains as well as a huge warning for you to change your web hosting server IP address.

How to check the Condition of a Shared IP?

You will find out the percentage rate at which domains hosted on $1 or any ultra cheap web hosting IPs get de-indexed and penalized by Google. I am sure you will certainly be shocked.

You are about to look for the rate at which domains hosted on ultra cheap web hosting service providers have been removed and penalized from the Google search results. If you find out that the rate of getting de-indexed is over 10% or 15%, then you need to believe that the shared IP address is harmful for hosting your domain. You need to avoid hosting any of your PBN domains on such IP address. There are certain IP addresses of some servers of cheap web hosting service providers having the de-indexing rate of over 50%. If you find such rate in any of the IP addresses, you need to believe that 50 out of the 100 domains hosted on that shared web hosting IP address have been penalized by Google.

If you don’t know how to look for the domains hosted on a certain IP address, you have nothing to worry. What if I tell you that finding them is very easy? Yes, it is a lot more simpler than you are thinking.

You just have to copy the IP address provided by the cheap web hosting service provider for your domain and visit a reverse IP lookup tool where you have to paste the IP address and run the tool. Some of the popular reverse IP lookup tools are YouGetSignal and MXToolBox. I highly recommend you to use YouGetSignal, but you might want to try out the next one as well.

You will be presented with the list of every domains hosted on that IP address which you got from your web hosting service provider in your hosting account.

When you find the list of every domains with the use of any of these reverse IP lookup tools, you need to copy the whole list of domains hosted on your domain’s IP address. You can use Scrapebox or even perform manual analysis to find out which domains have been de-indexed from the Google search results and later calculate the rate of de-indexed domains.

Using Scrapebox would be a lot more faster since it has a built-in module that lets you analyze in batches which domains have been de-indexed. If you want to perform manual analysis of all the domains, you may just enter the URLs one-by-one in Google and search for results.

Here’s what you can do to obtain results efficiently while performing manual analysis.

site:thedomainname.com

Just search this on Google and it will show all the pages of that particular domain that are indexed in Google.

If you don’t find the domain you are searching for in the Google search results, then it means the domain has been de-indexed by Google.

Know about Cloud Hosting Providers

You shouldn’t sign up for a web hosting account from service providers which provide dedicated IPs for every domains and don’t provide shared web hosting services. Such service providers include DigitalOcean, Vultr and Cloudways which just piggybacks on different cloud hosting providers like Amazon.

Although these are highly beneficial, these are also very difficult and cost a lot of money to set up your website properly. These hosting providers also provide you dedicated unique IPs for every domains that you host. You will easily be able to hide your domains in the ocean full of dedicated server IP addresses. However, these service providers aren’t good for your aim to build your own PBN since they are very expensive.

I highly recommend you not to purchase hosting services from any kind of SEO-focused web hosting service providers as well. Google always aims at their servers just like the $1 hosting servers and also has access to the server IP addresses of your domains hosted in their servers. This is the main reason why these kind of web hosting service providers have been staying as one of the major targets of Google’s PBN detection algorithm which result in getting your PBN domains hosted in their servers de-indexed from Google.

Can you leave back traces with the SOA Records?

I’ve already talked about how easily everyone on the Internet could find out the common Start-of-Authority (SOA) records of all the domains in your web hosting account while you are setting up a VPS web hosting account which provides a common dedicated IP of all your domains hosted with that account. What you need to know here is that “everyone” includes Google as well.

But, you have nothing to worry about anyway since every domains hosted on the shared web hosting IP address including all of your PBN domains hosted on it share the same Start-of-Authority (SOA) records and it is under control of your web hosting service provider. It is common for everyone who are hosting their domains in shared web hosting servers. Due to this reason, you don’t need to be afraid about Google detecting your PBN domains. There’s absolutely no way that they can find out your PBN domains with the help of the traces left by the Start-of-Authority (SOA) records. However, you need to make sure that your domains aren’t hosted on a VPS web hosting account, but instead on a shared web hosting account.

Building your PBN website

Now, it is time for you to build your websites and your PBN on your web hosting accounts that you have just purchased from several popular web hosting service providers. There are still many things you need to know about and many things you need to avoid. There are many forms of traces you could leave back for Google’s algorithm to detect your PBN if you don’t do what you have to do in the right way.

Need to create a perfect website?

You can prefer any forms of websites at this time. I highly recommend you to stay with just a single content-management system for all your PBN domains, WordPress. Using WordPress is very beneficial since the odds of leaving back any traces for getting your PBN detected are very low. More than 75 million websites on the Internet are powered by WordPress and this is the only platform that most bloggers as well as many businesses prefer. The surprising thing here that you need to know about WordPress is that even Facebook uses the WordPress platform in some of their sub-domains.

You might use any other CMS which is used by very less people. However, if you do so, there is very high chances of leaving back footprints regarding your PBN domains for Google. So, if you stick with WordPress (or any other popular CMS like Joomla), you don’t have to worry about leaving back any other traces for Google to detect your PBN domains. However, using popular CMS doesn’t mean you won’t be leaving any sorts of footprints. There are still many things you need to avoid.

You can setup your PBN website in any form such as a information providing blog, a magazine or maybe even a portfolio website for a brand or yourself.

There are thousands of premium WordPress themes you can use for any sorts of WordPress websites.

Re-purposed or Resurrected Sites

You have two choices on how you want to setup your PBN website, and put contents on it. There are several things that you need to look for while making a preference.

Here’s what you need to look for:

  • How many inbound links are you thinking to provide to your main site from the PBN website at the beginning?
  • Are the old contents of the site available in the Archive.org Web Archive for you to look for?
  • How better are the metrics in the old site?
  • Will there be a lot of 404 errors and 301 redirects?

Re-purposed Website

A re-purposed website refers to a website which has totally new contents while comparing with the old contents of the site when it was used by the original owner. None of the old contents of the website is used in the new website.

However, the new contents in the website need to be the same. If you want, you can change the niche as well. But, if you do so, you will eventually lose the trustability of the inbound links from the PBN domains. If you change the overall niche of your site, it could affect the link juice power of your PBN domain since the inbound links it has are based on a certain niche, and the links forwarded to it are of another niche, and it again repeats when you forward from your PBN domain to your main site of a different niche.

If you are looking to re-purpose a recently bought domain for your PBN, the best technique is to use the WordPress platform, which also produces effective results.

When your PBN domain is up and running in your web hosting server, you can now start inserting contents based on the same niche. It is not recommended for you to use it as a generic PBN domain if that wasn’t what you wanted at the beginning and you aren’t setting up a general PBN website containing many sub-topics (simply called as ‘categories’).

Resurrected PBN Website

On the other hand, a resurrected website is a website which not only looks like the older version of the site, but also consists exact same contents of the historical version. You just have to pull out the contents from the older version of the website, and rebuild your website in the same way using the exact same directory and file structures as well as the same content structure in a simple HTML format.

When the process is completed and you now have your resurrected website, you can put inbound links linking to your money-making site in the site footer, or in the main content of the site in the homepage to obtain more SEO power. You can try looking at the backlink information of the website through Ahrefs or Majestic and find out if there is a certain page in the website which links to many and also has tons of link juice through the page. If you find such page, you shouldn’t miss that page to provide backlink to your money-making site.

Along with the above process, you might also perform some outbound link pillowing.

Linking out to many other websites based on the same niche whether they are authority domains, industrial domains or local niche domains is considered as “outbound link pillowing“. Doing this will let you easily hide your links to your PBN domain, which will automatically make the process nearly impossible for Google’s PBN detection algorithm to find out your main domain among the other added domains (pillowing).

Building your Website with WordPress

Building your website with WordPress is super easy. It is a lot more simpler than you might be thinking if you haven’t used WordPress yet.

Building your Website with WordPress

You can easily install WordPress into your website through the one-click WordPress installer in the cPanel or with the tools like Softaculous or Fantastico in your cPanel which lets you install hundreds of different CMS in your website in a few clicks. You might also install WordPress in your website by uploading the WordPress files and creating a database for your WordPress website. You can do any of these; either using the WordPress installer in the cPanel or manually by uploading files and creating database. Whatever you do, you need to make sure that you have not left back even a simple proof for Google’s PBN detection algorithm.

However, while installing WordPress, you need to make sure that you haven’t chosen the option to get your website indexed by any of the web crawling systems. You don’t want your website to be indexed in Google when it is totally empty. When you have kept all the necessary contents in your website and have customized the themes and the plugins, you should remove the checkmark from “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” in WordPress Settings when you are ready to get your site indexed in Google.

You might even use some WordPress plugins to set up an “Under Construction” page in your website for preventing any crawlers to index your incomplete website until you are ready to get it indexed. You could also protect the root directory of your website by using directory protection for .htaccess either by inserting “Options -Indexes” line in the .htaccess file or through the cPanel itself.

Here’s another thing that you need to avoid! You shouldn’t be using a Gmail-based email address for admin user while you are installing WordPress in your website.

How to Choose WordPress Theme?

Now that you have installed WordPress in your PBN domain, you can choose a WordPress theme based on what kind of website you want to build. You might want to make it look like a information providing site, a personal blog, a company website, a magazine/news website or a portfolio website. You need to choose a certain WordPress theme focusing on what kind of website you want to build. There are certain features the theme needs to have depending on what kind of website you are building.

There are thousands of premium WordPress themes that you can use in your website for any kind of websites mentioned above.

If you are looking to build a website for your business, brand or company, you have to build a static website for which you should create different “pages” in WordPress.

If you are thinking about building your website as a blog or a news/magazine website, you have to insert contents as “posts” in WordPress.

You have to use different themes in different domains in your PBN. You have not just plenty, but uncountable number of themes (either free or premium) to choose from for your website. However, you need to install only the popular themes which are frequently updated and are compatible with your WordPress version.

If you are able to find a good theme that reflects your niche or if you can easily customize the theme with different plugins and widgets based on your niche, it can help your website look genuine in front of a manual website reviewer.

If you install premium themes in your website, you can make your website look a lot more better and it also makes sure that a manual reviewer will take your website as a genuine website if your domain undergoes a manual review at anytime.

A Corporate/Company Website

A Corporate/Company Website

When you are building a website for a company, it is usually better if you put static contents. For a company website, you need to make sure that the theme allows you to have these things in the first place:

  1. An area for your Header Banner to keep your main motto
  2. A Call-to-Action (a button that forwards visitors to a “Sign Up” page or a “Contact Us” page)
  3. Different sections in the homepage containing elements with small contents such as “Who We Are”, “What We Do”, “Our Services”, etc.
  4. Some images of people
  5. An embedded video from that niche somewhere in the site mentioning how that video is related with the visitor or the company
  6. Testimonials unit containing list of clients with their logos or a slider
  7. Elements such as an eBook for downloading, opt-in boxes, etc.
  8. No more than 5 links out from the homepage

You need to make sure that all the websites in your PBN domains for companies or brands are totally different from each other as well as unique.

Here’s what you need to know! Using the same theme and creating multiple websites with the same design, layout and contents could be huge footprint for Google.

A Personal Blog Website

A Personal Blog Website

You might make a personal blog or a blog run by few people for your PBN website. I highly recommend you to have just a few blog articles in your website and that you drip them out. You can find an option in your blog post writing interface in WordPress where you can define the exact date and time when you want your post to be published for the public in your website. If you don’t have blog posts at the moment, you might add them at anytime later. However, you need to have about 4-5 new pages or posts containing different contents when you build your website at the beginning.

You don’t really need any articles except just around 5 to 10 blog posts in your website. However, you need to have these static pages in your website alongside the dynamic content you will be adding into your website later on.

It isn’t really necessary for each of your blog posts to show their full content in your website’s homepage. You might show the full content or just the excerpts as per as you need since it doesn’t matter what you do about it. It is your choice and it doesn’t leave back any traces. If you stick a blog post on your homepage which contains a backlink forwarding to your money-making website, then it would pass more SEO and link juice power to your money-making website.

You need to customize the theme to make your website look like an actual blog.

You need to create a sidebar containing the general elements or widgets such as recent posts, post categories, image advertisements, newsletter sign-up form as well as recent comments.

All of your blog websites need to have buttons or icons linking to social media as well as social sharing buttons, opt-in boxes, a box containing author information or an unit containing the “About Us” content, a Call-to-Action button that links to newsletter subscription form or website sign-up or “Contact Us” page.

You need to have unique elements in every blog websites in your PBN domains. You need to keep switching things in each website to make things work randomly. You need to make all of your websites look like they are always getting updated or a work is going on in them. It is good to make your websites look like an amateur website, no matter who you hired to build to them.

Whatever you do with your websites, you need to make all of them look real and all of them need to have some purpose for their existence on the Internet. If you don’t do so, your websites mayn’t look real and when Google’s algorithm forwards them to manual web-spam team, your websites mightn’t pass the manual review.

You need to insert an author bio or “About the Author” section at the end of every blog articles of your website or you could insert an image of an actual person who is contributing in the website based on the website’s niche in the website’s sidebar. You shouldn’t be inserting image of a random person — the person needs to be someone related with your website’s niche.

If your website is related with health-related niche or micro-niche, you could put an image of a doctor or a medical personnel performing their works or staying in the image with some equipments. If your website is related with programming, you might insert an image of someone writing codes in the computer.

You also need to put a little information about person. You could type a few sentences which resemble that the person you are mentioning is a real person, and what an actual person in that niche would say regarding their works in a couple of sentences. It is very important to do this.

What I am trying to put your attention into is to make your website look original to a person like you who is about review your website if there is any spam or not.

News/Magazine Website

News/Magazine Website

Before building your news or magazine website, you need to take a look at the design and layout of some of the major news/magazine websites. You need to look at the design of their homepage and try to build one similar to it in one of your PBN websites. Later, you need build similar one but with different layout and feel across other PBN domains where you are planning to build news/magazine websites.

Your website can get a lot of authority if the layout of your well-designed news/magazine website looks amazing. If you are building such websites, you can pull out contents from other similar sites as well, however you also need to have few original contents of your own. You need to make sure that you have a well-built space for large featured image in your website’s homepage. This is what most of the similar websites have. You can also have blog articles published by a lot of authors in such kind of websites.

Here are some of the major elements that your site needs to have if it is a news/magazine website!

  • Large Featured Image Area on the website’s homepage
  • Large images in every blog articles
  • Many categories surrounding a certain niche (5 to 8 categories would be perfect.)
  • Social buttons and icons for social media sharing as well as for linking to social media profiles.

These kind of websites need a lot of maintenance stuffs and tedious design works. So, it is highly recommended to set up a news/magazine website in a PBN domain which has high authority as well as maximum pre-existing SEO power.

You need to focus on your news/magazine websites more than your other websites like personal blog, portfolio or company website since these kind of websites require you to work for a longer time in setting them up as well as writing contents in them.

Major Things Every PBN Domains need to have

Some of the must-have things for all of your PBN domains are mentioned below.

Major Things Every PBN Domains need to have

Registration Forms

It is highly recommended for you to provide a registration form your website in the homepage since it can help in making your website look real in front of a manual reviewer. It is better to include a registration form in the footer of your website, but you may put it in the sidebar as well.

Image, which reflects a certain person

Inserting an image of a person could be a better idea to add trustability over the website for visitors as well as manual reviewer from Google. You shall put an image of a random person as well. However, you need to make sure that if you have found an image from Google, the image needs to be inserted into your website by flipping it horizontally or by adding some pictorial effects into it. Anyone can easily find out whether an image is copied from Google or not by performing a reverse image lookup through Google Images Search. You might add any sorts of other touch up or extra effects into the image even though it is not really necessary.

Sidebar with Widgets

You need to use a theme that includes or supports a sidebar in your website. You might want to use different widgets like newsletter sign-up, RSS feeds, etc. alongside general widgets like recent posts, categories, recent comments, etc. in the sidebar.

Overlays and Pop-ups

Use of different overlays and pop-ups in websites are easily found in many websites, however there was a time when Google was trying to stop supporting sites containing pop-ups. You also need to keep overlays or pop-ups into your website. You can do so just by mashing up certain plugins across all your PBN websites but keeping their displaying style different across all websites.

Social Media Profiles

Adding social media buttons and icons in your websites are very essential and you must have them across all your PBN websites. You can use one among hundreds of different plugins to embed social media buttons or icons in your website’s sidebar, header, footer or different pages.

You can also integrate your social media profiles with your blog articles with the use of tools like IFTTT or Buffer by which your article gets shared across all the connected social media profiles whenever a new blog article is published on your website.

Use of social media buttons is very common in the recent years. So, these elements can’t be considered as a footprint for Google. However, it isn’t recommended for you to use same social media profiles across multiple PBN domains. You may just use 3 to 4 combinations of different social media profiles in each PBN websites.

Some of the major social media profiles that you might use for social media buttons and icons as well as social media auto-posting tools like IFTTT are Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram and Google+. However, Google+ isn’t so common in newer websites these days. You can use 3 to 4 different social media profiles across all your PBN websites.

Create every other static pages on all your websites

You need to have totally high-quality contents on every static pages of your websites. You shouldn’t spin contents from other sites or hire low-quality content writers to write contents in static pages or use text with less readability in your static pages.

If you are creating a company website, the static pages like About Us, Contact Us, Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions or even Disclaimer are highly essential. These pages need to have accurate information about the name and the address of the person/brand you used while registering your domain.

Every static pages need to have around 500 words at the very minimum.

You need to have these pages, at least in the corporate/company/brand websites since Google highly prefers websites with these pages to have maximum SEO power. You not only need to create these static pages, but you also need to make them help in making your websites look real in front of manual reviewer. You shouldn’t copy contents from other sites or use different generator tools to generate the contents for your static pages in your websites. There are plenty of such tools available on the Internet. Even though you use those tools, it is highly recommended that you go through the generated text and modify them to some extent and finally put in your websites.

Since the above mentioned pages are mandatory, here are some of the other pages that you might include in your websites:

  • Guest Posting (Write for Us) – only if your website is a blog
  • Promote Us (Become an Affiliate) – mainly for corporate/company websites
  • Advertise on this Site – mainly for blog or magazine websites
  • Case Studies – a page which could provide a natural link towards your money-making sites
  • Start Here/Services/My Recommended Sites/My Friends/My Team/Subsidiary Websites pages
  • Events or Coming Soon
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – if you include this page, you need to include only the general questions regarding your product, brand or industry

You might even include different media like images, videos, animated GIFs, etc. in the static pages to help in making your website look more realistic.

What You shouldn’t be Doing

You shouldn’t embed codes of any Google or third-party analytics tracking tools across every websites since it could leave back small traces for Google which is are easily detectable by their algorithm. You just want your PBN domains to pass link link juice power to your money-making websites. So, including such tracking codes into your websites might be unnecessary.

What You shouldn't be Doing

What you have to do is to make your website look like a real website where you are putting a lot of effort in making your website look better. You shouldn’t make your website look even a little bit similar to a PBN website. If you aren’t sure about what a PBN website looks like, you can look at those sites people usually spam on different forums like BlackHatWorld. You should be doing things that other people like you aren’t doing.

Knowing Your Most Powerful Backlinks and Pages

With the use of powerful tools like Ahrefs, you can find the existing backlinks to your PBN websites. You need to look for the most powerful backlink based on their link juice power.

You will also find out which pages in your websites have many backlinks coming towards them. If you find any inner pages of the website which you haven’t kept in your website yet, you are highly recommended to find out their URL structures and create a page in your website with the same URL structure. If you set up a 301 redirect from that URL structure to another page of your website, you could lose some of the link juice power of that page. This is the reason why you need to try creating a page with that URL structure rather than performing a 301 redirect. However, you might go on for the 301 redirect option in case the page is totally non-related to your website’s current niche.

If you provide a lot of 301 redirects to the homepage of your website, you might get a totally different type of error, which is known as soft 404 error.

It is better to pull out the original content of the older version of these powerful pages with the use of Archive.org Web Archive. If you aren’t able to find any of the historical version of these pages, you might want to try rewriting around 1000 words of contents on the same topic since there are backlinks in other websites linking towards this particular page on your PBN website. You need to make sure that you have written and optimized the content of these pages properly in high quality. You should give a lot of focus on the contents of these page if you find out that the backlinks forwarded to this page have a lot of link juice power.

If you do so, your page will rank into the search results automatically as well as provide you organic traffic into your PBN website. Getting real and organic traffic is a very important ranking factor these days. You will also have a lot of link juice power passed into your money-making site if you do things in the right way.

Using Plugins in Your Websites

When you have installed and activated a good theme in your website, the next things you need to do involve the setting up of different plugins. Using at least a few plugins is very essential in every websites. However, you shouldn’t be using the exact same plugins in multiple PBN websites. You might want to create different plugin sets for all your PBN websites. If you use certain plugins for SEO, forms, redirections, bot blockers, etc. in one website, it is better to use the alternative plugins of those plugins in another PBN website.

If you install a highly popular plugin in your website, it would be safer for you to prevent Google from detecting your PBN domains. Doing this ensures about having very less chances of leaving back footprint for Google’s algorithm.

Just with the use of a certain theme, your website can’t perform all the necessary functions. A theme is just a layout and a design of your website. To perform different functions which are not included in the WordPress core files and your theme, you need to use WordPress plugins. You have thousands of plugins to choose from just like you have for themes. Every plugins perform different functions. There are different plugins which perform the same task and it is beneficial for you to use the alternative plugins to certain plugins in different PBN websites.

Some of the different features you need to have in your WordPress dashboard are mentioned below along with the plugins that adds those essential features for you:

  1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Yoast SEO, All in One SEO Pack, Ultimate SEO
  2. Redirections: Simple 301 Redirects, Redirection. Redirections are also included in different SEO plugins like Yoast SEO.
  3. Bot Blockers: Wordfence Security, Spyder Spanker, All In One WP Security & Firewall. You may just edit the .htaccess file manually instead.
  4. Link Juice Keeper plugin for redirecting link juice from 404 pages to the homepage. However, performing a lot of redirections might cause soft 404 error as mentioned above.

Here’s the main reason why you need to install the plugins and features mentioned above.

It is always a good technique to use a SEO plugin for structuring your site to make it SEO-friendly. Making a SEO-friendly site involves creation of sitemap, having proper structure for posts and pages permalinks (you can easily do so from the Permalinks page in the WordPress settings), proper meta tags and titles, etc.

Use Different Settings in Different Websites

I highly recommend you to use different basic WordPress settings in all your PBN websites. You can easily change the WordPress settings by logging in into the WordPress dashboard through the login page and changing the major options mentioned below:

  • Different time zones and date formats for every websites
  • Setting up options to close commenting feature in blog posts in certain number of days
  • Different structures for page and post permalinks (but don’t use the permalinks containing the ? parameter)

Linking towards other Authority Outbound Links

I have already told about linking to other outbound links through your PBN websites earlier in this guide. If you link out to other authority domains from your PBN websites, you can create link noise which lets you hide your main website alongside other websites you link to. However, you need to link out to only the sites which are under the same niche and are authority sites and news sites.

If you are looking for sites you want to link out to, you can just search for your article’s keyword or your niche in Google and look at the websites at the top of the search results. These are the websites which are at the highest position in your industry. You can also use the date range to find different websites which were at the top of the search results while your domain was being set up by the original owner.

You can also search in Google by adding the word “news” at the end of your search keyword. Doing this will let you know about different news related to your keyword from authority sites. You can link out to these sites from your PBN websites. However, you also need to link out to other non-popular domains under the same niche so that Google can’t suspect just over your main website.

Updates to the Site Contents

It is not really necessary to keep updating the contents in your PBN websites frequently as you do in your main site. However, it is still recommended to keep updating some contents in some period of time. You might even take 2-3 months to put new contents into your website. Doing this helps to make your website look like a real website to Google’s manual reviewer. However, if you have highly authoritative magazine or news website, you have to keep adding contents frequently.

You might also modify the contents of the existing posts and pages. You also have an option to change the date of a particular post in the post writing/editing interface. You can make a use of this feature as well.

However, you shouldn’t change or modify the contents in your links. Even if you do it mistakenly, at least you shouldn’t save the content, usually for those links which are pointing towards your main websites. Doing this can make Google think you are manipulating links in your website. It could also affect the SEO power of your main website.

You might take a page down from your website and pull out some paragraphs of contents which includes the links to your money-making site. But, you should never touch (and if you every touch mistakenly, you should never EDIT or CHANGE) the link it points to. Doing this could be very harmful for your main website.

Creating 301 Redirections

When you perform a 301 redirection, Google usually understands that the original page has been transferred to another location. When you are creating a totally new website (re-purposed), you aren’t using anything from the historical version of the website or the older link structure. This usually results in a lot of 404 errors for many old URLs when they are accessed by someone.

If you purchased the expired domain just because there are links towards that domain, then you need to tap on this inbound link juice which will let you utilize its link juice power by forwarding the link juice through linking out to your main website.

You can do this by using a plugin built for 301 redirection or any of the SEO plugins which lets you perform 301 redirection. You might also do it manually by 301 redirecting the 404 URL of the current re-purposed website to another page in your website. After doing this, you can just put a link to your main website on that another page where you redirected to.

You should confirm that you have done the same for every pages where you can find the most number inbound links with the use of tools like Ahrefs or Majestic.

Many people are performing 301 redirection from all the historical URLs to the homepage of the current website and thinking about increase a lot of link juice power of the homepage and later linking back from the homepage to their money-making website. You might also perform the same, but you need to do so only if you think it is really necessary. However, you shouldn’t be performing 301 redirection from a lot of old page URLs in your website to the homepage since doing so might result soft 404 error as I mentioned above in this guide.

What I recommend you to do is to perform 301 redirection from some URLs to the homepage and some URLs to the existing pages or blog articles. Doing this can make your PBN safer from Google’s PBN detection algorithm since Google thinks having excessive amount of 404 errors to 301 redirection is a massive footprint for a domain to be a part of a PBN. I am repeating the same thing as I mentioned above — you should be doing things that other people like you aren’t doing.

You can set up 301 redirections with the use of redirection plugins as well as some popular SEO plugins like Yoast SEO. Yoast SEO consists of its own built-in module for performing 301 redirection. You might also use a plugin named “Link Juice Keeper”. Setting up 301 redirection is also possible by editing the .htaccess file or through the cPanel. However, you need to make sure that you aren’t using the same plugins or techniques across every domains in your PBN. If you do so, you could be leaving a small footprint for Google to detect your PBN.

Blocking the Bots

You have to block different third-party crawlers including Ahrefs, Majestic, Moz, and many other automated crawlers from your website.

Why should you do so? Doing this will eventually stop these crawlers from crawling your website and inserting the information into their index which can easily be accessed by anyone using their tools. Anyone will be able to analyze the backlinks towards your main site with the help of these tools. Your PBN also doesn’t get known to your competitors when they are looking at your backlink profile through these tools.

Blocking the Bots

However, you shouldn’t be blocking the Google’s crawler since doing so will automatically stop you from forwarding link juice power to your main websites. You can easily do so by using certain codes in the .htaccess file of your website. You may also use security plugins or plugins like Spyder Spanker to block the bots and crawlers.

I recommend you to try out the manual process by editing the .htaccess file since it makes sure there are no footprints left behind. Doing this is efficient and makes your PBN safer instead of using Spyder Spanker plugin on every PBN websites.

Using the plugin technique across all your PBN websites to block the bots might be a threat to your PBN since Google will easily find out that you are using the Spyder Spanker plugin. However, you might also use different security plugins across different websites in your PBN to prevent leaving back footprints.

Having one plugin common in every websites mightn’t be a bigger threat. But, if you have 3 to 5 common plugins in every websites, isn’t that a threat? Yes, that’s certainly a very huge threat towards your PBN which could turn out to be a huge footprint later on.

This is the main reason why I prefer mashing up things up to the maximum extent when I am using plugins and themes, defining website structures as well as inserting contents.

Inserting Contents in Your Website

If you have a small blog or a news/magazine website, inserting around 2000 words of content at the beginning can be a better idea. This doesn’t include the static pages like About Us, Contact us, etc. and the legal pages like Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, etc. since they are mandatory.

Updating your site contents or adding at least one new blog post in a month can be a good choice. If you have a website with higher authority, you might need to put contents more frequently — around 2 new blog posts a month would be totally fine. But, you shouldn’t just put contents of around 500 words every time. You might want to try out putting different length of contents. Sometimes you might write a 1000 word article or sometimes you could just place an update of around 200 words.

You shouldn’t think about inserting random contents to provide links out to your main website quickly. Thinking in this way is really very dangerous.

You might want to try out adding new blog post and linking out to other high authority websites based on your niche as well. You might also embed relevant videos in certain period of time in your website. You could also write about a news incident and provide link out to the URL of the page where high authority news sites like CNN published about that particular news.

How to get Contents faster and cheaper?

Managing a PBN with many domains could turn out to be very expensive if the talks are about inserting new contents. Some of the techniques you can use to get contents quickly are mentioned below. You might also get a freelance content writer or a Virtual Assistant (VA) to write contents for you. You can make a use of tools like BuzzSumo to find popular articles related to your niche and then insert your own article using these methods.

Curating Content

Many people have used this method in the recent days. Content curating refers to the process of pulling out content from other websites or articles and inserting them in your websites by writing around 200 words of content about the article at the top or at the bottom of the pulled article. However, you need to provide link to the URLs of original content with the use of no-follow link to prevent link juice from passing out to that URL. Doing this is totally fine. This method is usually used on different blogs, and most frequently in news websites. You mayn’t get into any sorts of issues while curating contents since everyone including popular sites are following the same practice.

Embedding an Info-graphic and Explaining

You might even just look for an info-graphic based on your niche and insert it as a blog post on your website and write some reviews regarding that info-graphic in the same blog post. After doing this, you can provide a link for the viewers to get out to the website containing the original content. But, you need to provide no-follow link to the original content to prevent link juice from passing to it. If you don’t want to link out to the original content, you might just convert the whole info-graphic into text and later use the text on your website as a blog article.

Transcribing a Video

You can look for a video and then transcribe the video contents in the form of text and later insert some reviews about the video. You might also add your opinion regarding the issue presented in the video. It is always a better way to respect the video content creator by inserting a link out to the URL of the original video.

Image Blog Posts

You may just create a blog post containing around 5 to 8 images. But, you also need to insert captions into every images by clicking on the images and clicking on the edit icon. You may also add a little information about the image. The images need to be based on your niche or be specific to a certain location. If the images are original, it is always a good thing. If you need original images, you may just capture screenshot from YouTube videos in full-screen modes.

Looking Different

Whatever you do, you need to make sure that your site looks totally different from an actual PBN website. You shouldn’t be doing things that would make your website look like a link-house containing excessive amount of links out to different authority domains including your money-making website. Creating a website just for mass link building purposes is also a bad idea. These kind of websites are usually created for selling the blog post URLs and can’t resist the passing of time.

Avoiding Leaving Back Traces by Linking Out to Your Main Websites

There are a lot of different techniques Google can use to detect your PBN or domains in your PBN and eventually de-index them from the search engine as well as de-value their link juice power. If this happens, everything you have done will turn out to be worthless at the end and you have nothing to take actions regarding this issue.

I am sure there is a powerful PBN detection algorithm inside the Google’s web crawling system.

There are several factors and dynamically changing things in their algorithm, which I am going to talk about later in this guide. Their algorithm crawls different websites and pulls out all the publicly available information about the websites. Then, their algorithm analyzes every single data as a dial which contains different metrics behind it which are all obtaining by the crawler, which is similar to their penguin-based algorithm.

When any of the crawled sites turns out to have a lot of variables or passes over their fixed threshold which is based on the total number of all values at which its dials are pointing towards at the moment, then that certain website gets forwarded to their manual review list, which is reviewed by their web-spam team of over 12 thousand employees in Hyderabad of India to find out whether the website is a part of a PBN or is a money-making site having link juice in it from a lot of other domains or not. When your domain is forwarded to this team, it is almost sure about all your PBN domains getting detected, which can be prevented only if the team finds out that your on-page contents and the design of your website look genuine and original and doesn’t look like a general PBN website. This factor depends totally upon the manual reviewing team and you have nothing to do regarding this issue. If you have inserted an analytics tracking code into your website, you might find out a visit to your website from Google Bangalore.

When this happens, you can do nothing about it. The manual reviewer takes a look at their list of different items and then concludes your website as a part of PBN or not.

During this period, they will also find out all the domains linking to this website and push forward for further manual analysis by the team. They can detect the domains by looking for any sorts of traces left behind while building backlinks.

Their algorithm goes through all your PBN domains with the backlinks to your main website, and then forward it to another PBN.

If you want to prevent your website getting forwarded for manual review, you must be linking out to different authority websites as well as less popular websites under the same niche alongside your main website. Doing this will hide your main website from the Google’s PBN detection algorithm. All your outbound links will look totally normal, and as a result, your PBN domain will be able to hide your money-making website from getting detected.

But, if the crawler finds out that a small footprint you left behind for few PBN websites is common in every PBN websites, you will be determined suspicious by the crawler and eventually all your domains will be sent to the web-spam team for manual review. You can do nothing about this if this really happens in your case.

The worst thing you will be doing during the entire process of building your own powerful PBN is leaving back traces for Google, which will eventually affect you a lot when Google’s crawling algorithm detects it. There are many different types of footprint you might leave behind while building your PBN. All of these footprints are very important and you need to make sure you don’t leave them back.

Even a little footprint could turn out to be ultra dangerous for you since Google’s algorithm can use that single footprint and forward to their crawler to look for any other footprints and take an action for de-indexation or forward to their web-spam team for manual review of all your PBN websites.

What is a Footprint?

A certain factor which remains in the same form across different websites in your PBN and can be seen by anyone as well as identified and further analyzed by Google’s algorithm is known as a footprint.

A footprint can be anything. It could be certain DNS setting, certain IP address, the web hosting service provider and the web hosting account you are using, an WordPress plugin, certain backlink pattern across all domains as well as an on-page factor.

What is a Footprint?

When you leave back a footprint (simply known as “trace”), the odds of Google’s algorithm detecting and de-valuing your PBN domains are very high. There are certain level of severity accompanied with every types of footprint. Some footprints are highly risky, and the others are less risky.

If a footprint you have left behind is highly risky, or you have left a lot of high risk or low risk footprints behind, then the chances of your PBN domains getting de-valued and de-indexed are very high.

The Checklist of Do-Not-Do Footprint

Here is a list of certain things uncovered from the overall guide above, based on what you should do and what you shouldn’t do.

If you perform a very small move, a small footprint could be left behind and that small thing will destroy all of your hard work since Google will de-value all of your PBN domains.

Web Hosting Footprints

  • Use of same domain registrar for multiple domains
  • Registration of multiple domains on the same date
  • Using same email address for the registration of every domains
  • Using common information across all domains which makes the WHOIS of all domains common
  • Use of same nameservers on multiple domains
  • Use of custom nameservers for many domains (there are bad neighborhood domains in the same IP)
  • Bad neighborhood of the nameservers
  • Common email address as displayed by the Start-of-Authority (SOA) records (all the domains including and excluding your domains in a shared web hosting have common SOA records of the web hosting service provider)
  • Excessive use of Cloud Content Delivery Network like Cloudflare

Website Building Footprints

  • Use of same theme across multiple websites
  • Use of same plugins on multiple websites
  • Redirecting to a certain page (i.e. the homepage) from all the old URLs showing 404 errors
  • Blocking a lot of bots across all websites (this isn’t very dangerous, but might make Google suspect on your website)
  • Use of same analytics tracking codes
  • Using similar or same robots.txt file across multiple websites
  • Blocking same crawlers through robots.txt which is publicly visible by anyone (Using the .htaccess method would be certainly better since its contents are hidden from the public.)
  • Using the same name of author across multiple websites
  • Use of same affiliate codes in PBN websites made for affiliate marketing
  • Using the same one-click installers across multiple websites

Website Content Footprints

  • Every posts linking towards the main website
  • Same number of blog posts across multiple websites
  • Use of similar images and other media contents across different pages in multiple websites
  • No outbound links to authority sites and other non-popular websites of the same niche
  • No cross-linking or internal linking of pages
  • Not creating any pages, not even the necessary static pages, but only posts
  • Different blog posts on multiple websites with the same date
  • Use of a lot of curated contents or spinned/rewritten/duplicate contents
  • Similar number of words in multiple blog posts

Site Linking Footprints

  • Inserting an outbound link in the first post of every websites
  • Building many websites not related to the main website and linking out to the main website
  • Providing same number of backlinks to main website from multiple PBN websites
  • Use of multiple same keyword links across different websites
  • Linking out to same website across all multiple websites
  • Linking out to other PBN websites from certain PBN website/websites

The Final Verdict

It seems as if you have walked along with me throughout the entire guide. That’s great! I am totally impressed by you.

Here are some of the things you should never keep out of your mind while performing different forms of SEO.

The whole process of SEO as well as building PBNs differs from time to time. What I have told in this guide works at the recent time, but it mayn’t work in the future. This is common in blackhat SEO since Google hates blackhat, which is why performing blackhat SEO is also highly dangerous. It is not risky in terms of anything rather than the important time you spend while learning blackhat SEO. What if something you have learned for certain hours or a whole day doesn’t work during the time you try it?

Everyone who is performing different forms of SEO needs to understand the background of Private Blog Networks since PBNs are the end points or loopholes that lets you rank higher in the search results quickly if you do things in the right way. Using expired domains mightn’t pass down much link juice power to your main website, but if you use domains kept under auction or the authority websites you purchase while they are running, you won’t have to lose anything since all of their link juice power stays with them and the real traffic they used to get will still keep coming.

You shouldn’t just build backlinks through your PBNs, but you have to mash up different techniques including your PBNs and other different methods for performing SEO. Just with the use of PBNs, your main website can’t get better in any niche although doing this can help in many different niches. This is the reason why you should be mashing up different forms of SEO and use your custom methods to gain more SEO power for your main website.

If you have any kinds of feedback or queries regarding the entire guide of building your own PBN, you might want to write over your entire issue in the comments. I’d be responding to your issue as soon as I have finished understanding about your problem.

I really loved this long guide on building my own Private Blog Network. Thank You for publishing this guide! It has helped me quite a lot. I have worked on building PBN several times in the past, but Google caught me everytime. When I went through this guide, I found out the mistake I did. I hosted several PBN domains in the same shared web hosting and provided backlinks to same website from every domains. I did this during May, 2018. And, on June 23rd of 2018, I saw some traffic coming from Bangalore, India on my main website and the next day, I found out that my main website has lost all its power as well as all my PBN domains were unable to pass a lot of link juice power down to my main domain. I didn’t know what I did wrong. But, thanks to you, I’ve found out the exact same point where I did wrong and I won’t let this repeat again. I am sharing this with my friends as well who want to learn about blackhat SEO. Thank You very much for this really interesting guide! – Barry

Is this a footprint to register all your domains using just the same credit card? If so, what would you recommend to do ?
